O, Bethlehem
The destination of the wandering star
Which wise men followed from afar
To pay homage to the new born King
with treasures: Gold, frankincense and myrrh
The manger where angels led shepherds
to admire and to adore the Lord of all.
The birth place of the Prince of peace
And Savior of the world.
O, Bethlehem
The native place where Naomi and Ruth returned
To give the lineage to Christ
The ancient city where David was thirty
After receiving the refreshing well water,
He offered it to the Lord,
When it was fetched by three of his mighty men
The dwelling place of the Ruler
From old to everlasting
As the prophet, Micah, foretold long, long ago.
O, Bethlehem
The city of David when Joseph and
Mary great with the child
Came to pay tax but there was
No room for them in the inn.
The town where cries were heard and
Blood of innocent babies shed by evil king Herod
The site of the Church of the Nativity
Where the most recent fighting took place
As the world watched on the TV tubes
O, Bethlehem
The holy locality where I visited not too long ago
When it was peaceful and tranquil
The little town about which much sacred music
Was composed and played
On the earth and in the heavens.
The fountain head of Christian churches
Which proclaim the everlasting messages
Of salvation that Jesus is the
King of kings
And Lord of lords
Forever and ever more.
